History Of Ballet
Ballet originated from Italy in the 15th century. The first people who learned ballet were noblemen and their wives. The noblemen and their wives would take dance classes from the "dance masters," and then they would perform at ceremonies and weddings. Ballet was very respected.Certain King and Queens chose to hire the lower classes to dance in their courtyards. This was an honour for the dancers. If one was to refuse to dance for the crown, it was seen as highly disrespectful. King Louis the 14th was the one who popularized ballet. Louis was very talented himself and hired many dancers to dance in his courtyard, though Louis only hired dancers to teach them, not for them to entertain him. One hundred years later, in 1661 the first ballet dance academy was made in Paris France. Twenty years later in 1681 ballet went from the courtyard to the stage. Still today, ballet companies are being developed.
“Let us read, and let us dance; these two amusements will never do any harm to the world.”
